Sampdoria Away Shirt 1996/97 - Karembeu 16 (XXL)

Karembeu 16, classic Sampdoria and a shirt with plenty of visible wear and character – an exciting player-related model from Serie A in the mid-90s.

This Sampdoria away shirt 1996/97 with Karembeu 16 was originally resold as a matchworn shirt. However, we have no documentation that can confirm match use, and therefore it is not sold as documented matchworn.

The shirt shows clear signs of use in the form of many bobbles and pulls in the material. The wear may be consistent with extensive use but cannot in itself prove that the shirt was worn by Karembeu in an official match. We therefore prefer to be conservative about the provenance.

On the back is Karembeu 16, which connects the model with the French midfielder's period in Genoa. Christian Karembeu was known for his enormous work rate, physique, and versatility, and later became both a world and European champion with France.

In this era, Sampdoria boasted a fascinating collection of profiles, and the club's distinctive shirts from the 90s have since achieved cult status among collectors. Karembeu shared a changing room with names like Roberto Mancini, Clarence Seedorf, and Vincenzo Montella during his time at the club.

The combination of Karembeu 16, the visible wear, and the history of the shirt previously being sold as matchworn, makes it an unusual collector's item – but without us attributing a match-used status that cannot be documented.
